SCOPE OF WORK: The Youth Services Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and implementing the Refugee Youth Mentorship Program (RYMP). The RYMP is a year-round program focused on equipping newly arrived (within 5 years) high school students in the Dallas area school system with the skills needed to succeed in their new academic setting. Up to 105 students between the ages of 15 and 21 are enrolled each year and receive one-on-one case management from Master of Social Work students, AmeriCorps Members and other interns that will be under the supervision of the Youth Services Coordinator.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with the Volunteer Coordinator and Social Work Field Placement Coordinator to train, manage, and oversee School Success Coaches, AmeriCorps members and other interns.
- Hold weekly group and individual supervision of School Success Coaches, AmeriCorps members and interns.
- Monitor case notes, files, service plans, and progress with students.
- Assist in the recruitment and enrollment of new students, as well as the assignment of new cases to program staff.
- Act as a liaison between area school districts and the IRC in Dallas.
- Coordinate and lead monthly Saturday Learning Series and Girls Group events in order to provide students with opportunities to grow academically, civically, and socially.
- Develop community partnerships to further support youth programming.
- Ensure compliance with requirements of the program, including IRC policies and procedures, donor guidelines, and relevant federal and state regulations.
- Actively participate in monthly Youth Communities of Practice calls.
- Prepare relevant reports and data to provide to funder on a monthly basis and support Grants Coordinator with data to apply for the new sources of funding.
- Collaborate and partner with the other internal departments to ensure youth have access to additional services IRC provides.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate degree in the educational field or social work preferred.
- At least two years of experience working in youth development, or in an educational setting preferred.
- Program and people management experience.
- Creativity and initiative to independently lead projects.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to lead workshops for groups of students and caregivers.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Comfortable conducting home visits.
- Available to be on call three evenings a week between 5:00 – 7:30 pm and one full Saturday per month in person.
- Valid license and insurance, plus willingness to drive 15 passenger van.
- Proficiency in Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Burmese, Kiswahili, Kinyarwanda, French or other relevant languages highly desirable.
- Ability to be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Cultural sensitivity/excellent cross cultural communication skills.
This position reports to the Youth Program Supervisor.
