Job Purpose
The Community Engagement Manager will lead and coordinate the implementation of local partnership projects in North Africa. The role will also support the launch of pilot policy and research initiatives in the sub region and beyond. The Community Engagement Manager will advise the Hub Director on local partnership and engagement opportunities and pilot projects. The manager will lead on project implementation of pilot activities such as workshops, events and partner networking activities, and support pilot research.
What you will do:
Generic responsibilities:
- Provide strategic advice and technical support on relevant matters.
- Support and monitor compliance with the relevant handbooks and NRC policies, and respective quality assurances.
- Contribute to the development of policies, strategies, tools, and new approaches, with a focus on innovation and piloting.
- Ensure that best practices are identified, documented, and disseminated both within the region and beyond.
- Provide capacity development in the region as well as support and train partners, community members, and volunteers (as applicable). Serve as the primary point of contact with local community members and groups, as well as local authorities.
- Support the Hub Director with project and funding proposals and also provide regular analysis and reports.
- Develop and implement a community engagement plan for the Hub.
- Build a network of local partners, including community members. Maintain networking and outreach with external stakeholders in civil society, government counterparts, local authorities, relevant professional associations, academia, and experts in the field.
- Coordinate external engagement activities for the Hub including capacity-building, briefings, and workshops. Represent NRC at local meetings, and create tools, fact sheets, presentations, and guidance.
- Increase community engagement through outreach. Plan and implement events and opportunities that increase direct participation of people on the move.
- Monitor and support the implementation of pilot projects with local partners in North Africa and beyond.
- Respond to partner needs and requests for support.
- Provide high quality logistical and organisational support for the Hub.
Professional Competencies and Qualifications Required
These are skills, knowledge and experience that are important for effective performance.
- Relevant education and training in project management, social sciences, development, or human rights studies, or equivalent relevant experience
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience working as a senior manager in a humanitarian/recovery context with local or regional organisations on mixed migration or refugee and migrant rights in North Africa countries, particularly Egypt or Tunisia
- Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile with documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Ability to work with a wide range of actors, including government and regional entities
- Prior volunteer or professional experience in community development and coordination is an advantage
- Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment
- Experience in carrying out trainings and hold focus group discussions
- Knowledge of refugee, asylum seeker and migrant rights issues in North Africa
- Professional knowledge of humanitarian and protection principles
- Experience from working in start-up organisation contexts
- Experiencing planning and overseeing project implementation and monitoring
- Strong logistical and organisational skills
- Fluency in Arabic and French, both written and verbal, and good communication skills in English
