Job Summary
Urban Sprouts is hiring a cook! As a lead chef, you will prepare healthy and tasty meals and snacks for the children in our center. Our center is licensed for 124 children ages 6 weeks – 12 years of age. We are excited about bringing on someone to join our kitchen team who will enjoy their role and make a significant contribution to the overall success of Urban Sprouts.
Responsibilities And Duties
- Plan and prepare weekly menus on a five week seasonal cycle that reflect all CACFP requirements
- Prepare breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks for all classrooms (to include staff)
- Serve meals to each classroom on time, at the appropriate temperature
- Deliver food from the kitchen to the classrooms ready to be served as suitable for the children’s age and development
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen and work space, including all food storage areas.
- Maintain all health and sanitation and serve safe guidelines
- Work with assistant or volunteers to organize and put away all groceries, food orders and non-food items
- Keep lunch carts and buckets clean and sanitized daily
- Work with assistant and/or volunteers to wash and sanitize all dishes
- Build positive relationships and communicate in a respectful manner with families, children, team members, administration, Board of Directors, visitors, volunteers, and the communities in which we serve
- Work with Administrative staff regarding children’s specific dietary requirements and prepare specialized versions of meals in alignment with those requirements, ensuring these meet all CACFP guidelines. (ie. dairy free, gluten free, vegan, allergy free, etc.)
- Keep up to date with current best practice and policies and procedures regarding serve safe, CACFP and national nutrition guidelines.
- Work in partnership with administration and Heru Urban Farming to provide fresh locally grown produce components to the menus when possible.
- Cooperates with and participates in nutrition education activities for staff, parents and children.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications And Skills
- 3+ Experiences in a lead kitchen role
- Training or education pertaining to the role
- Food Handlers Certification
- CACFP Training (will be provided through Urban Sprouts)
- CPR/First Aid Certified (can be obtained through Urban Sprouts)
- Organized, cleanly
- Adaptable
