Summary Description Of Work

Planning fund-raising strategy and for carrying out specific projects relative to Heartland Family Service special events. Identifies potential sponsors and settles on the appropriate targets for funding relative to Heartland Family Service special events. Both alone or with other agency personnel, approaches individuals, corporate and foundation officials and negotiates the terms of their support to the agency through special events. Build relationships and work with a wide range of internal and external customers; meet deadlines; juggle multiple events; identify, cultivate, and steward donors and volunteers; take high initiative and responsibility for identifying, planning and completing specialized projects.

Compensation: between $46,700 and $59,080 per year (compensation based on total years of relevant experience)

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week with some required nights and weekends.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in nonprofit management, communications, or related field
  • Experience in fundraising required. Event planning and relevant sales experience also strongly preferred.
  • Preferred applicants live or have lived in the Council Bluffs area and have a strong knowledge of the Council Bluffs community.
  • Valid driver’s license/acceptable driving record required.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • *Plans and implements agency’s special events to meet and exceed fundraising and cultivation goals. Events include, but are not limited to, the Safe Haven Golf Tournament, Strike a Chord in Council Bluffs.
  • *Responsible for organizing and coordinating Good Works 101 meetings.
  • *Assists in coordination and implementation of the agency’s internal United Way fundraising campaign.
  • *Identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporate sponsors and donors required.
  • *Identification, cultivation and stewardship of volunteers required, in cooperation with the Southwest Iowa Advisory Committee and Sarpy County Advisory Committee.
  • *Evaluate and report on successes and challenges of special event initiatives. Identify and implement modifications and improvements for special event initiatives, including but not limited to systems to improve revenue, number of stakeholders, visibility and awareness.
  • *Strives to make connections between the agency and the larger community whenever possible in order to contribute to the agency’s ongoing fundraising and friend-raising efforts.
  • Serve as HFS staff liaison to the Sarpy County Advisory Committee and Southwest Iowa Advisory Committee, including providing administrative support, assistance identifying and cultivating new members, and retaining current members.
  • *Maintain management records and statistical reporting for special events and maintains event process and procedure notebooks/manuals.
  • Maintains accurate data entry for projects and special events. Communicates frequently and consistently with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to be courteous, caring and professional to internal and external customers at all times.
  • Ability to work with all agency staff, including program area staff and volunteers, in a collaborative and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to plan, manage, organize and implement projects to meet and exceed agency’s fundraising and volunteer goals.
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills, initiative and comfort with results/goal-driven focus balances with relationship building skills.
  • Is dependable and punctual.
  • Abides by all specific program and HFS procedures, policies and requirements.
  • Develops personal and program related skills through participation in formal and informal internal and/or external training and networking opportunities.
  • May be asked to participate in agency committees and QIT groups.
  • Creates, maintains and shares as appropriate a dynamic self-care plan.
  • *Essential functions of this job is to be performed on company physical work site.
  • Performs other program related duties as assigned.
