Position Summary
A Camp Intern is part of a group of staff who are at camp to work and grow in their education and Christian camping skillsets. They work primarily in the dining hall/dish room. They gain experience working within each department while working on projects within the program, office management, guest service, and operations departments. In addition to their work assignments, they will participate in a discipleship program including reading assignments, discussion groups, and one on one mentorships with camp leadership. Camp interns also experience the mission of TSA by working in local Corps.
Essential Functions
- Most of your work will be in Dining Hall/Dish room
- Prepare dining hall prior to meals. Set tables and chairs, ensure cleanliness, place food labels, set up food lines. Serve food. Clear tables, trash, and reset dining hall after meals.
- Be responsible for the safety and upkeep of the dish room.
- Maintain cleanliness of dish room and equipment. Stack, wash, and store dishes. Maintain upkeep of dish room, prep room, and kitchen floors
PAY RATE: $350/WEEK
You will also gain experience working in the below areas:
- Program – assist program manager with program department needs including but not limited to hiring summer staff, marketing, developing summer programs, and ordering supplies.
- Operations – assist operations manager with maintenance needs. Learn the administrative tasks and manual labor activities of the operations department.
- Assist in trash runs, set up and clean ups of programs, moving furniture / sound equipment, cleaning bathrooms, building campfires, and all other maintenance activities.
- Guest Services – assist guest services manager with booking of groups, meeting group’s needs, running camp café as needed, and other needs of the guest services department.
- Office Management – assist Office Manager with needs of the office. Learn and assist with administrative tasks.
- Discipleship – attend weekly discussions of discipleship material. Complete daily and weekly reading assignments. Meet with mentor once per week.
- Maintain a standard of high integrity & morality that always promotes Jesus Christ, including break days and time off.
- Maintain a high standard of personal living and cleanliness.
- Live with other staff on site, including fellow interns.
- Responsible for any other duties assigned by the Camp Director or his designate.
Working Conditions
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as chairs, tables, dish racks, and reach overhead. Ability to safely and properly use maintenance equipment. Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old of age.
- Ability to follow through with assigned tasks
- Ability to work on a team player.
- Ability to accept guidance, direction and supervision
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Ability to understand and implement safety regulations and procedures
- Ability, both visual and auditory, to identify safety hazards and monitor guest and staff behavior and enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness or injury).
- Willing to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and other environmental conditions
