Save the Children – USA

Period of Engagement: Consultant will work 20-40 hours/week for up to 70 days in total between April 15 and November 15, 2022.

Location: The consultant will work remotely and will not need to travel for this assignment.

Consultant Objectives: The consultant will develop a series of products for the Behavior Change & Community Health Team to which describe the team’s achievements on various projects. This includes summarizing program signature approaches and their results in a simple, accessible, and convincing way and designing a conference brochure, an infographic, and other products.

Description of Services: Through review meetings with respective Behavior Change & Community Health team members and project focal points, the consultant will:

Develop Behavior Change & Community Health team documentation and planning

  1. Develop a review workplan for project documents.
  2. Develop documentation plans for several ongoing projects.
  3. Develop recommendations for future documentation.

Capture project learning and prepare for use in key products

  1. Work closely with the Behavior Change & Community Health team to capture activities, processes, methods, and approaches implemented within projects, and capture SBC, RCCE, CE lessons learned, best practices, and innovations from these activities.
  2. Use project monitoring & evaluation (M&E) plans, SBC/RCCE/CE indicators, and data collected to integrate project results and achievements into KM product development in close collaboration with a monitoring, evaluation, research and learning (MERL) focal person.

Develop and/or design various Behavior Change & Community Health team products

  1. Create several KM products such as at least two case studies, three technical briefs, and one brochure of key approaches and results, as well as design one infographic and content for an internal webpage.
  2. Review and help redesign the team SBC Framework graphics in a simplified version, working with a designer as available.
  3. Review and edit the text of the online FOCUS tool to strategically shorten it and make it more user friendly.

Support documentation and event planning for an international conference

  1. Develop a session plan and promotional announcements for a side event.
  2. Support poster development and development of other approved abstract work, such as presentations, Blue Sky sessions, multi-media showcase, support scripting of Comms. Talks, etc.
  3. Support conference preparation, as needed, such as documentation of the number of abstracts submitted and accepted, provide online support and answers to Save the Children participants for planned activities, including coordination of booth manning, etc.

Deliverables

  1. A cross-team documentation plan including suggested formats of KM products.
  2. Two+ case studies, one+ technical briefs, a brochure and an infographic of key approaches and results, and webpage content in simple, accessible, and convincing language and graphics for review and finalization.
  3. Revised SBC Framework presentation (including graphics from outside designer) for review and finalize.
  4. Revisions/edits of the FOCUS online tool text to shorten the tool for review and finalize.
  5. Overall and detailed session plan of conference side event on the role of community engagement in SBC for review and finalization.
  6. Several posters and presentations for the conference based on an existing template.
  7. Scripts for Blue Sky and Comms. Talk Sessions (talking points).
  8. Short report of products and recommendations for further documentation and KM work the team should consider.

The consultant will ensure that Save the Children and/or project branding guidance and requirements are followed for all products produced.**Proposed Timeframe / Schedule:**

  1. Background reading and planning, meeting with BC&CH Team; develop a workplan for the review of project documents including MERL data – 4 days
  2. Develop a documentation plan including formats of KM products in discussion with team – 2 days
  3. Draft case studies, technical briefs, a brochure of key approaches and results and an infographic, as well as content for a website in simple, accessible, and convincing language and graphics for review and finalize – 30 days
  4. Draft revisions to the SBC Framework presentation (including graphics revised with designer as available) for review and finalize – 4 days
  5. Draft revisions/edits of the FOCUS online tool text to shorten the tool for review and finalize – 5 days
  6. Work with BC CH team to draft overall and detailed session plan of conference side event on the role of community engagement in SBC for review and finalize – 4 days
  7. Work with BC CH team to draft/edit several posters and presentations for the conference based on existing template – 4 days
  8. Work with BC CH team to draft/edit scripts for Blue Sky and Comms. Talk Sessions – 4 days
  9. Submit short report of products and recommendations for further documentation and KM work the team should consider – 2 days

The timeframe will be maximum of 60 days depending on the proposed methodology and work-plan.*

Handover

Upon completion of hours worked, the consultant will provide a comprehensive handover notes and completed deliverables detailing the status of existing activities/projects.

Management of Consultancy

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required.

  • A relevant master’s degree in Public Health (or related field plus a minimum of 7 years of experience designing, implementing and monitoring and evaluating) Social and Behavior Change, Behavioral Sciences, Health Promotion, Health Communication, Communication Sciences, Human Centered Design.
  • Proven experience in developing effective KM or PR products such as case studies, peer reviewed articles, brochures or infographics.
  • Excellent writing skills in reports, research briefs, and multi-media communication platforms.
  • Graphic design skills/experience and/or experience using platforms that can generate infographics.
