Role & Responsibilities
The Philanthropy Advisor works in collaboration with the Swiss German Office team and the Philanthropy Team, supporting Medair’s mission by raising funds with foundations and governmental organisations in German-speaking Switzerland. Increasing the organisation’s visibility within Philanthropy in Switzerland.
Project Overview
Responsible for a portfolio of foundations, communes and cantons that contribute significantly to the annual fundraising target and growth. Acquire new donors by networking, researching and building relationships.
Workplace & Conditions
Medair Global Support Office (GSO) based in Zurich, Switzerland. Swiss or eligible EU citizens, or those with a valid work permit for Switzerland, can apply.
Starting Date / Initial Contract Details
As soon as possible. Full time, open ended contract.
Key Activity Areas
Fundraising with Foundations and Governmental organizations
- Manage a portfolio of organizations, identify potential projects and submit proposals and reports in a timely manner as per solicitation plan.
- Acquire new organizations (Cantons, municipalities and foundations).
- Maintain personal contact with representatives of foundations and board members and build positive and sustainable relationships.
- Write appropriate project proposals, reports and ad hoc documents including translation from English into German and coordinate internally with International Programs, Finance and the field locations to gather necessary information.
- Create communication material such as writing project summaries, letters and presentations.
Medair Visibility
- Increase brand awareness and seek opportunities to position Medair within targeted audiences.
- Networking.
Administration
- Contribute to the Philanthropy approach, tactics and initiatives in collaboration with the Philanthropy team to foster innovation and best practices.
- Monitor institutional philanthropy trends.
- Plan, track and analyse personal targets and results.
Team Spiritual Life
- Reflect the values of Medair with team members, local staff, beneficiaries, and external contacts.
- Contribute to the spiritual life of your team in our Christian faith-based setting.
- Encouraged to join Medair’s international prayer network.

Qualifications
- Educated to degree level.
- International Relations, Business Development and/or Sales, Communication, Account Management.
- Excellent knowledge of German, Swiss German and English (Speaking & Writing). Good level of French.
Experience
- Demonstrable professional success in the area of fundraising, sales or communication.
- Experience and understanding of project management.
- Overseas experience in a humanitarian/development setting.
- Excellent written communication skills incl. translation from English into German.
- Ability to bring complex information in a simple way to the point without losing essential content.
- Analytical skills and ability to identify potential of projects and audiences match
- Strategic thinking.
- Good networking skills.
- Advanced used of MS Office.
- Ability to use the Customer Relationship management software.
- Understanding of International and humanitarian contexts.
- Experience in business development.
- Goal, output and performance-oriented type of person.
