The Global Human Resources Division (HR) of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking candidates for the position of Associate to provide administrative support on compensation and performance. The HR Associate will work closely with the Compensation and Performance Team members, which are part of the Learning, Development, Compensation and Performance (LDCP) Unit making sure the unit runs smoothly and is supported during the Compensation Project implementation. This full-time position can be based is any of our major global offices, with a preference for Europe, Africa or South America, and reports to the Associate Director of Global Human Resources based in Switzerland.

Due to COVID-19, many of our global offices are operating in reduced capacities. The successful candidate may be required to work remotely if local mandates necessitate. We recognize that this moment, during the pandemic, is a uniquely difficult time for most people, particularly those with caregiving responsibilities, and we aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES*:*

1. Provide day-to-day administrative support such as scheduling meetings, and managing databases, standardizing documents and filing systems (uploading documents in our document repository, maintaining data in our HRIS, etc.);

2. Issue and administer employment status change letters related to promotions, additional & acting allowances, salary, and job changes;

3. Respond to both direct email and ticketed support requests from staff related to learning, development, compensation, and performance;

4. Process invoices and bills for payment in a timely manner;

5. Assist with the coordination of organization-wide events and processes including the Annual Performance Review process and ad hoc events;

6. In collaboration with the Manager for Learning Development and Performance, track and manage the annual performance review process and introductory period reviews;

7. Maintain updated employee records in all relevant systems including the Human Resources Management System (“HRMS”) and the electronic file management system and participate in the monthly and bi-weekly payroll processes;

8. Assist with ad-hoc requests, such as compiling materials requested for audits or special projects;

9. Generate any necessary reporting for internal or external purposes;

10. Work with and support the work of other internal stakeholders (e.g. Operations Administrators, HR, Payroll and Finance) on matters related to compensation and performance; and

11. Perform other responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS*:*

Education: A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or a related field, or equivalent work experience, is required.

Experience: A minimum of one year of related work experience is required, with a preference for experience operating internationally with exposure to global compensation plans in a large, dynamic, mission-driven environment.

Related Skills and Knowledge:

1. Strong analytical, mathematical, and data/information management skills is required.

2. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required; fluency in French, Arabic, Spanish is a plus.

3. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff within the organization are required.

4. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to drive and sustain operational excellence and to develop controls are required.

5. Ability to apply critical analysis and judgement when reviewing activities is required.

6. Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a team of talented professionals in multiple global locations is required.

7. Ability to work well under pressure, while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously is required.

8. Proven computer knowledge including Windows, MS Office applications (particularly Excel), Adobe Acrobat Professional, HR Management Systems (HRMS), and the ability to quickly acquire new computer skills is required; Experience using Ultipro (Ultimate Software)/ UKG or M-Files is highly desirable.

9. Knowledge and experience working in international organizations is highly desirable.

10. Knowledge of compensation and labor laws in various country jurisdictions, understanding not only the regulatory framework but also the business context, is a plus.

11. Knowledge of and a passion for human rights is a plus.

Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this position, if it is based in the United States, begins at $51,583. Our salaries vary by location; if the position were to be based outside of the US, the salary would not be a direct conversion of the US salary but would rather be situated within the relevant local salary grade based on the experience of the successful candidate.
