Job Overview
The External Relations (ER) department has been created in February 2020 and is comprised of 3 main but complementary functional areas: Private fundraising, Communications and Advocacy. The ER department is at the beginning stages of creating a new radical and ambitious global strategy that will enhance IRC’s ability to ‘punch above its weight’ in private income, advocacy, and brand awareness. The main objective of the department is to enable this organization of more than 12,000 staff to have the resources needed to continue serving 18 million people worldwide in places affected by war and disaster, shape the humanitarian sector by influencing key policies and reforms and build and grow IRC’s reputation.
The Senior PowerBI Developer will work as an integral part of an analytics team– that includes data scientists, analysts, and engineers– to lead the development of a suite of dashboard that will be leveraged across all global ER teams– Private Fundraising, Communications, and Advocacy.
Major Responsibilities:
- Partner with ER Stakeholders and analysts to develop insightful, visually compelling, and user-friendly dashboards in PowerBI that empower both technical and non-technical audiences
- Lead on the collection of business requirements, development of project plan, and creation & iteration of mock-ups
- Write production-quality data transformations in SQL (and DAX when applicable) using dbt with an eye towards performance, maintainability, and scalability; collaborate with engineers to transform and synthesize data from multiple sources and identify performant data structures for reporting needs
- Define and implement core principles and best practices for dashboard administration, development, maintenance, and governance & cataloging
- Leverage technical expertise and creative problem solving to build, enhance, and automate analytics and dashboarding capabilities
- Constructively challenge business on assumptions and goals; asks questions that effectively lead to deeper understandings
- Develop trainings and support analysts in development of smaller-scale PowerBI dashboards; act a technical expert on best practices in data visualization & PowerBI to the ER Analytics team, and larger ER organization
Job Requirements:
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

6+ years working in the field of data and analytics; advanced SQL skills (nested data structure manipulation, windowing functions, query optimization, data partitioning techniques)

3+ professional experience building dashboards (Looker, Tableau or PowerBI)

Strong knowledge of dimensional modeling; expertise in building performant and scalable data models that align with dashboards

Professional experience with workflow orchestration tools and data warehousing technologies

Strong adherence to data ops best practices, including version control (e.g., GitHub), and data testing

Excellent written and verbal communication

Independent worker with strong attention to detail & commitment to a high standard of work product

Desire to work in a multi-cultural environment and collaborate with people from different backgrounds and experiences
Desirables:
- Professional Experience with PowerBI, Power Query and, DAX/MDX scripting language
- Familiarity with Salesforce or similar CRM technology
- Experience in Azure Synapse
- Experience with dbt
Working Environment:**

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
