JOB PURPOSE: The East and South-East Asia & the Pacific Regional office plays a critical role in the Amnesty International Secretariat, gathering and communicating accurate and action-oriented human rights information and delivering on the vision to end grave human rights abuses and build societies respectful of human rights. In your role as Deputy Regional Director – Greater China you will be responsible for leading an integrated, cross-functional team to implement high quality, strategic research, campaigning and communication strategies that deliver an impact in relation to human right concerns associated with China.
ABOUT YOU: You will have previous experience of working across various human right issues, with a passion in this field. Working as the Deputy Regional Director – Greater China, you will be an experienced manager and leader with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across the organisation. It’s vital that you have previous extensive experience in research and advocacy across human rights in the Greater China region, so that you are able to ensure that the research strategy is sound and focused.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: • Manage the development and implementation of action plans for human rights research, advocacy and campaigning for China, in line with globally agreed priorities and strategies • Build and maintain effective working relationships with Amnesty International sections and structure • Ensure the timely delivery of agreed plans and that the team report with sufficient clarity and detail on the impact of their work, including to funders • Manage risk assessments and oversee the implementation of security procedures for staff undertaking missions and travel and other instances involving high risk
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: • Demonstrated knowledge and direct experience of the human rights and political context in China and an expert understanding of the international human rights legal framework as well as relevant regional and national legal frameworks; • Ability to lead innovative and creative approaches to campaigning, including use of a range of digital channels to achieve campaign objectives; • Ability to develop strategies and plans and review them and adapt them as required, exercising and promoting creative thinking. • Substantial experience of working in the region. • Ability to direct and collaborate with others to achieve results • Knowledge and experience of field security issues and the ability to manage them appropriately, ideally gained through work in conflict or other high-risk situations;
