Project Description/Background:
This consultancy will support Save the Children US’s (SCUS) Disaster Risk Reduction and Anticipatory Action portfolio as a technical advisor.
Description of Services:
The Consultant will ensure that DRR programming is properly integrated into relevant proposals, awards and programs through outreach, advocacy and capacity building efforts aimed at appropriate SCUS program staff. The Consultant will provide institutional, technical, and strategic guidance and support to Save the Children’s global work to promote the use of anticipatory action to reduce the impact of climate-induced shocks, to build the capacity of country offices to integrate AA and forecast-based action into organizational mechanisms and to expand its programming through both existing and new internal and external funding opportunities.
Namely, the consultant will support:
- (50%) Technical Support – Provide DRR and AA technical assistance to a specific portfolio of countries and projects including through support to program design, monitoring and evaluation, reporting, and program innovation. As assigned, work with specific SC country offices to strengthen their capacity to design, deliver and monitor quality DRR and AA activities through mentorship, trainings, technical workshops, and the development and dissemination of evidence-based program standards, guidance, tools and learning.
- (20%) New Business Development – Support the development of high quality technical proposals for institutional and private DRR and AA opportunities as assigned.
- (30%) Technical Leadership and Coordination – As assigned, support technical initiatives prioritized by SC, including workplanning, coordination and preparation for key events, and support in specific engagement opportunities.
Deliverables and Timeline
The consultancy is expected to cover a period of approximately 3 months with the possibility of an extension dependent on needs and performance. The dates of the consultancy will be 1 May through 1 August 2022. Deliverables will be based on assigned tasks and will be determined during the consultancy but may include report reviews, proposal development elements, etc.
