Job Description

Join us as the Area Executive Director for Fundraising and Development, where you’ll be at the forefront of shaping our comprehensive vision, fundraising strategies, and growth initiatives. In this role, you’ll be responsible for leading, developing, and driving the comprehensive vision, fundraising, and growth strategies to secure funding (annually $25M to $100M) within a specific Area and in alignment with the territory strategy.

Responsibilities

Develop Exceptional Leadership: Mentor and coach a team of fundraising professionals who lead various area teams. Foster diversity, inclusivity, and servant leadership principles while attracting, retaining, and developing top talent. Lead by example. Demonstrate servant leadership principles by putting the needs of your team first. Foster collaboration, empathy, and a commitment to serving others. Encourage team members to do the same.

Lead Strategic Fundraising Teams: Oversee and guide teams dedicated to raising substantial charitable contributions through diverse fundraising channels, such as annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate donations, events, and sponsorships. Monitor, evaluate, and allocate resources to achieve area revenue goals and key performance indicators aligned with our strategic direction.

Craft Fundraising Strategy: Serve as the primary architect of fundraising strategies, ensuring that they seamlessly align with our area’s strategic goals, as well as broader market, area, and national campaigns. Develop and execute strategies to drive fundraising growth and efficiently achieve fiscal targets.

Nurture High-Value Relationships: Provide strategic direction to area staff for building and managing relationships with high-wealth donors, volunteers, and corporate partners. Innovate and expand both existing and new programs to enhance the area’s total fundraising revenue.

Steer Area Performance: Lead office within the assigned area, setting strategic direction and performance expectations. Track area performance and offer strategic insights to territory leadership. Establish and monitor measurable performance metrics and analytics to gauge progress against financial and organizational objectives.

Enhance Operations: Establish and enforce policies and procedures to optimize organizational effectiveness. Prepare and manage the area budget, exercising strong problem-solving skills to address challenges collaboratively. Proactively identify and resolve potential issues while developing problem-solving capabilities in team members.

Forge Positive Connections: Cultivate positive relationships and ongoing communication with Board Members, donors, third-party organizations, and volunteers. Serve as a positive representative of ALSAC-St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, reflecting the values and impact of our fundraising efforts.

Principal and Major Donor Engagement: Develop, maintain, and expand a portfolio of principal and major-level donors and partners within the assigned area.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Six or more years of progressive fundraising experience, including people leadership experience with multiple direct reports/reporting structures.
  • Exceptional diplomacy skills and the ability to engage with high-wealth individuals and influential stakeholders.
  • Proven success in senior-level leadership positions, demonstrating increasing responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in fostering effective professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with community development best practices and philanthropic communities.
  • Agility in navigating ambiguity and handling unexpected situations.
  • Self-directed and able to work autonomously with minimal oversight.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking abilities.
  • Capacity to comprehend complex instructions and execute them effectively.
  • Involves travel 20%-30%; including nights and weekends and periodic travel to Memphis, TN for enterprise events
  • Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is required for this role.
