DIGITAL MARKETING ASSOCIATE

The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking candidates for the position of Digital Marketing Associate to support its growing digital fundraising initiatives around the world. To sustain these efforts, the Digital Marketing Associate will support and implement the launch of digital fundraising campaigns ranging from email marketing acquisition and lead generation to sustainer marketing retention efforts. The Digital Marketing Associate is preferably based in New York or Washington D.C. and reports to the Senior Digital Marketing Manager based in New York. The Marketing team is responsible for the organization’s marketing fundraising initiatives. This is a 6-month fixed-term position with the possibility of extension.
Due to COVID-19, many of our global offices are operating in reduced capacities. The successful candidate may be required to work remotely in the interim. We recognize that this moment, during the pandemic, is a uniquely difficult time for most people, particularly those with caregiving responsibilities, and we aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Digital Marketing and Project Coordination

Help ensure projects are on track with timelines for e-appeals, digital marketing campaigns, online cultivations and other items;

Coordinate the review of all digital marketing elements through the internal vetting pipeline;

Update working documents to track digital marketing projects (i.e., sourcing, tracking, and appeal codes), including requesting and documenting URL redirects;

In coordination with the Senior Manager of Digital Marketing, build and deploy digital marketing campaign assets, including email marketing, SMS marketing, social posts, paid advertising, and landing pages as needed;

Coordinate with the Development Operations Team and Web Team to launch changes to marketing’s online assets, including donation forms, lightboxes, email sign up forms, Engaging Networks pages and website banners, and to reconcile donations;

Assist with communication between the Web team and the Marketing team, including the planning and coordination of all marketing activities that cut across HRW’s website;

Build and test entry points and sign-up forms for HRW’s email marketing and SMS marketing programs; and
-
Regularly report on the performance of digital fundraising campaigns to the Senior Manager of Digital Marketing, with a focus on channel key performance indicators.
Testing and Optimizations

Optimize digital marketing campaign assets in Engaging Networks and Salesforce Marketing Cloud, including changes to email messages, donation pages, email sign up forms, online action pages, confirmation screens, auto follow-up emails, and building the relevant coding and URL tracking for each asset;

Build A/B testing of emails, paid advertising, text messages, and marketing pages and forms;

Build marketing automation journeys for new and existing HRW audiences;

In coordination with the Senior Manager of Digital Marketing, build reporting for direct response and digital marketing campaigns;

Troubleshoot with the Web team on website fundraising elements that interact with the Salesforce CRM or Engaging Networks, including lightboxes, sticky banners, website banners, and sign-up functionality;

Build individual emails in Salesforce Marketing Cloud on ad hoc basis and provide reporting on performance metrics as needed; and

Carry out other tasks as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in international relations, marketing, communications, social sciences, or related studies is required.
Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant experience, preferably in Direct Response or Digital Marketing, is required.

Excellent oral and written communications skills in English are required. Proficiency in another language is desirable.

Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within HRW as well as with external partners are required.

Experience with digital marketing platforms and fundraising CRMs (preferably Salesforce CRM, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and Engaging Networks) is highly desirable; experience with Microsoft Office and Excel is required.

Knowledge of HTML and CSS is required.

A background in testing and optimizing is required for this position.

Strong experience in implementing campaigns on paid social and digital advertising platforms is preferred.

Ability to multi-task effectively, including having good planning and organizing skills and ability to work well under pressure are required.

Creativity, initiative, follow-through and excellent organizational skills are required.

Demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or international issues and the capacity to master and represent the mission and programs of Human Rights Watch are essential.
