Job Purpose

The College Readiness Navigator will be facilitating the Transition to College Virtual Series program. The Transition to College Virtual Series consists of two (2) terms; 1: Applying to College and 2: College Life. The College Readiness Navigator will use the skills they acquire to facilitate sessions that promote a plethora of positive behavioral changes such as the development of sense of place, cultural identity, resiliency, and feelings of deep accomplishment.

This is a seasonal position with two annual terms: February to April and October to December

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and mentorship for kamaliʻi pursuing college
  • Introducing a process to scaffold college applications, financial aid, best practices for college life, etc.
  • Be present, participate and be a role model
  • Assist with kamaliʻi while participating virtually on ZOOM
  • Assist with setting up of activities to allow continuous facilitation of learning and curriculum connection
  • Support kamaliʻi with adhering to ZOOM etiquette
  • Practice refocusing skills and tools to engage kamaliʻi
  • Be attentive to general kamaliʻi needs and challenges
  • Communicate concerns or questions to Youth Development Leads

Other Duties

  • Collaborate with community resources to develop curriculum for virtual sessions
  • Facilitate platforms that communicate sessions, announcements, opportunities, etc.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the priorities and goals of Liliʻuokalani Trust
  • One-two (1-2) years of experience supporting kamaliʻi with college readiness skillsets and tools
  • Currently pursuing or in possession of a college degree
  • Actively engage in multiple modes of technology
  • Desire to pursue a career with social impact and/or trauma response in Hawaiʻi

Travel Requirements

In alignment with our organizational competencies of Alu Like I ka Hana (Teamwork) and Ho`omau i ka `imi Na`auao (Continuous Learning and Improvement), this position will require occasional travel across the island, inter-island, and out-of-state depending on the needs of the team and the organization. While travel may not always be a need, the ability to travel when required remains a crucial aspect of this position in order to successfully contribute to our concerted efforts to carry out our Queen’s legacy.

Physical Requirements

Perform light physical work, including climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and lifting weights of up to 25 pounds. Exposed to outdoor climate and diverse terrain.
