Main job purpose
To work within the BIU to ensure the Unit’s key objectives are being met in a robust, efficient and effective manner with a special focus on ethical business practices. By ethical business practice, this role will refer to (but will not be limited by) human rights, labour rights, environmental standards, anti-fraud bribery and corruption, political exposure, issues related to safeguarding and ethical codes of conduct.
Main responsibilities
- Takes responsibility for Crown Agents’ corporate approach to due diligence and related Policy implementation
- Ensures all relevant Departments within Crown Agents adhere to corporate due diligence standards through ‘dotted-line’ management and progress monitoring.
- Takes the lead on ethics-related due diligence reviews of existing and potential Crown Agents’ business partners including the flagging of related risks to the business.
- Manages and evolves due diligence practices to meet the needs of the business whilst also maintaining ethical standards
- Delivers key BIU services including bid and project support and giving direction to the business on key BIU policies and processes.
- Supports the creation of and implements BIU training workshops and presentations at Head Office and across our International Office network and projects.
- Maintains integrity assurance mechanisms through both internal and external reporting processes.
- Updates and maintains all BIU administrative systems including SharePoint, CRM and paper-based files.
- Engages with different company departments to ensure all BIU policies and processes are used as tools for effective risk mitigation.
- Acts as a focal point within Crown Agents for advice on key compliance-related laws such as the 2010 Bribery Act and 2015 Modern Slavery Act.
- Implements key reporting requirements in relation to the 2015 Modern Slavery Act and ensures continuous business integration improvements.
- Continuously promotes business integrity as an effective tool for business winning both internally and externally, including through use of social media.
- Represents Crown Agents externally at BIU-relevant events and conferences including UN Global Compact and Transparency International
- Assists in achieving the BIU’s objectives in the context of Crown Agents overall vision and strategy
About you
Qualification

Post-graduate qualification or equivalent in a subject related to international development/development management or in any area connected to business

integrity including international law, human rights, environmental sustainability, anti-corruption or ethical business practices.
Experience
Essential
- Proven experience in international development or development management and a strong interest in at least one of the following areas:
- Human rights or labour rights
- Anti-corruption
- Environmental sustainability

Ethical business practices
-
Ideally, min 3 years experience in compliance

Issues related to safeguarding policy and process

A confident and persuasive communicator with the ability to work

productively both independently and in a team environment;

Ability/willingness to train and capacity build others

Previous experience developing and providing compliance training in a

multicultural setting and developing policies, guidelines, tools and templates.

Ability to multi-task and respond to many issues at once

Ability to work independently, flexibility and to tight deadlines

Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)

There may be opportunities to travel to Crown Agents’ international offices.
Desirable
- Experience in conducting due diligence checks/reviews
- Knowledge of the UK Bribery Act and/or Modern Slavery Act
- Foreign languages an asset
