Background and justification
This course aims to prepare WASH practitioners from the regions Asia, Africa and MENA to facilitate high quality virtual training offers, thereby enabling enhanced and localized regional capacity building, knowledge sharing, peer-to-peer learning, and networking. The training is part of a strategic portfolio of activities developed and carried out in close cooperation between the German WASH Network and the German Federal Foreign Office to respond to the growing demand for qualified humanitarian WASH capacities in the three regions. The highly interactive training includes advanced training on conceptualising, planning and conducting trainings, coaching on effective strategies for engaging adult learners, and practice in training others, including supervision and feedback.
Target audience
The training targets 18 advanced practitioners who have participated in the Regional WASH in Emergencies Workshops and trainings of the German WASH Network. Fluent English is a precondition for participating in the training.#
Objective
Support the implementation of the “WASH in Emergencies – Training of Online-Trainers”
Supervision & Reporting
The consultant will report to the responsible project coordinator of the German Toilet Organization.
Tasks and duties
- Design, prepare and deliver 2x lectures / sessions on specific ToT topics (including documentation and session plan)
- 1/2 day of preparation of the training with co-facilitators on Jan 11
- Co-facilitate the 5,5-day training events
- Timely and professional activities and breaks
- Ensuring consistency of messages by the facilitation team for the course
- Support and advise participants in the preparation of own practice sessions, and provide constructive feedback
- Debriefing with Co-facilitators (1/2 day, after the course)

- Preparation: up to 2 days
- Training: 5,5 days
- Follow Up: up to 0,5 days
Remuneration and payment schedule
Remuneration will be made deliverable-based:
- 50 % at the signature of the contract
- 50 % on completion of the training.
Please note: Potential travel expenses (flights, transfer, visa) and other direct costs (e.g. materials) related to the assignment are only reimbursable against original receipts if they have been approved by GTO in advance.
Qualification and Expertise
- A minimum of a postgraduate degree in a related area
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in developing and facilitating high quality training workshops, particularly training of trainers and in virtual training formats;
- Proven and extensive experience in the development of training curricula and materials;
- Experience in delivering WASH training curricula and good understanding of current good practices with regard to WASH
- Multidisciplinary skills and the ability to communicate effectively (in English, oral and written form) to people with varying technical knowledge/skills and from different educational and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Substantial knowledge and experience in capacity building: adult learning methodological approaches and tools and strong skills in facilitation; designing trainings; and evaluating training impact.
