Job Purpose:
The candidate will be responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to research, prepare, submit, and manage grant and foundation proposals to donors (including, but not limited to, USAID, US Dept of State, FCDO, UN agencies, family foundations). They will work with the CLO, CEO, and CDO to develop and execute the fundraising priorities and strategy of the organization. They will work across teams to ensure all aspects of awards are coordinated and managed in accordance with funding criteria.
Essential Functions:
- Develop (including doing the technical writing of or organizing and overseeing technical writing for) and submit grant applications for new and ongoing program funding.
- Develop and implement a strategy to identify new grant and contract opportunities for the global programs.
- Continuously perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants.
- Proactively and systematically identify, engage, and cultivate relationships with potential funders, including corporations, governments, foundations, individuals, and institutions.
- Maintain a roster of subject matter consultants to support institutional development/technical writing.
- Craft and articulate compelling, fact-based narratives and statements of need to support funding opportunities.
- Maintain WHI’s various grant and contract registrations such as SAMS and Grant.gov.
- Maintain a system for recording critical data regarding past and current grants as well as current proposals.
- Develop a system for managing reporting processes on grants won and maintain high level donor reports.
- Monitor institutional donor trends and opportunities.
- Draft compelling capacity statements or profiles of programs, as required.
- Collaborate effectively with program, finance, and operations staff globally.
- Lead internationally placed Business Development team.
- Negotiate and manage grants and contracts as awarded.
Minimum Education / Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)
- 5 – 7+ of experience in grant writing including research and/or business development
- Successful foundation and grant writing experience
- Proficient computer skills – especially Microsoft Suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint)
- Strong communications skills, oral and written
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, complex, decentralized and geographically diverse organizational structure
- Experience in international development industry in developing countries preferred
- Ability to travel to field office sites (1-2 offices per year)

Working Environment / Conditions:
Standard office environment. Mostly remote position with limited DMV travel, if applicable. Domestic and international travel required (up to 10% of the time).
Salary: $75,000 – $100,000
