IRC Background:

The San Diego office of the International Rescue Committee was established in 1975. The office has served refugees from over 25 countries offering a wide array of programs including resettlement, economic development, employment and career development, youth services, immigration, food security and community health. The office regularly resettles between 250 to 1,000 newly arriving refugees each year and serves over 7,000 clients through all the office’s local programs.

Job Overview:

The Finance Specialist will assist with the management of employee records and implementation of accounting systems in order to collect and process financial data, in compliance with IRC internal policies and donor expectations.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Review payment requests and invoices, process payment vouchers via the selected payment systems as appropriate (i.e. checks, ACH bank transfers, Bank of America Pre-paid cards) and maintain financial records per retention policies;
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports to be submitted to IRC HQ and donors per scheduled due dates and/or contractual obligations;
  • Coordinate with all programs to process data reconciliation for direct assistance disbursements: purchasing card transaction reconciliation, program inventory distribution and other payable/receivable transactions;
  • Perform monthly debarment & exclusion checks per contractual obligations;
  • Act as the office’s central cashier in charge of receiving fund collections from various departments and prepare weekly bank deposits;
  • Other Finance and Administration duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Some accounting or bookkeeping training/classes required; 4-year degree in related field preferred;
  • At least two years of professional work experience with accounting and bookkeeping procedures and standards;
  • Previous non-profit agency/grant-funded environment experience preferred;
  • High degree of professional integrity; ability and dedication to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data;
  • Solid organizational skills: detail-oriented, ability to multi-task, set priorities, and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently, be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced team environment;
  • Good interpersonal skills: ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural work environment;
  • Solid Computer skills: MS Word, Excel, other financial related software strongly preferred.

Working Environment:**

  • Covid-impacted remote work with travel to office as required;
  • Standard, professional office environment;
  • Offices hours are scheduled as Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm;
  • Access to a reliable vehicle to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area with a valid driver’s license and current insurance.
