Job brief

We are looking for a financial officer to manage all financial transactions, from fixed payments and variable expenses to bank deposits and budgets.

The financial officer responsibilities include auditing financial documents and procedures, reconciling bank statements and calculating tax payments and returns. To be successful in this role, you should have previous experience with bookkeeping and a flair for spotting numerical mistakes.

Ultimately, you will provide us with accurate quantitative information on financial position, liquidity and cash flows, while ensuring we’re compliant with all tax and NGOs regulations in Germany

Responsibilities

  • Manage all accounting transactions with the help of the field accountant
  • Prepare budget forecasts
  • Publish financial statements in time
  • Handle monthly, quarterly and annual closings
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable
  • Ensure timely bank payments
  • Manage balance sheets and profit/loss statements with the help of the field accountant
  • Report on the NGO’s financial health and liquidity, periodic reports (monthly, quarterly and year-end), such as balance sheets, profit & loss statements, etc. to the financial manager and management board
  • Audit financial transactions and documents
  • Reinforce financial data confidentiality and conduct database backups when necessary
  • Comply with financial policies and regulations in Germany
  • Performing audits and resolving discrepancies
  • Maintain cash receipts, vendor invoices, bank statements and other records of accounts as archives
  • Keeping informed about current legislation relating to finance and accounting
  • Conduct financial risk assessments to detect and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse, embezzlement
  • Coordinate with the internal and external auditors during audits and prepare financial audit preparation
  • Mentor, coach and develop the intellectual capacity of local staff regarding financial management
  • Reviewing and scrutinize the expenses while conducting a cost/benefit analysis to find ways to minimize costs, maximize value and improve volunteer/employee productivity and morale
  • Lead and/or assist key stakeholders and board of directors with seeking sources for fund-raising, assisting partners and donors with assessment of and effective utilization of funds

Requirements and skills

  • Work experience as a financial officer
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including IFRS
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software like QuickBooks (one year at least)
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
  • Experience with general ledger functions
  • Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills
  • BSc in Accounting, Finance or relevant degree
  • Additional certification (CPA or CMA) is a plus
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic (written and spoken)
