About Equal Measures 2030

EM2030 is a collaboration of national, regional, and global leaders from feminist networks, civil society, international development and the private sector. We connect data and evidence with advocacy and action on gender equality, to transform the lives of women and girls and realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

It is more than 25 years since 189 countries committed to the Beijing Platform for Action by advancing women’s rights. And we have less than 10 years until the 2030 deadline for achieving the SDGs and their promise of gender equality. But Equal Measures 2030’s SDG Gender Index shows that not a single country has yet achieved gender equality.

Our Strategic Plan 2020-2025 is founded on the belief that data can expose gender inequality and injustice, motivate change, and drive accountability. From 2020 to 2025, working with women and girls and across feminist organizations and movements, Equal Measures 2030 will catalyze change through data-driven advocacy aimed at holding governments and policymakers accountable.

Rapid change towards global gender equality is possible. Join us to help make it happen.

About this role

Reporting to the Head of Data and Insights, the Gender Data & Insights Analyst will work together with colleagues across the EM2030 Secretariat team (especially communications and advocacy colleagues) and with EM2030 partners across Africa, Asia and Latin America to connect data and evidence with advocacy and action to advance gender equality.

In this role, you will draw heavily on the SDG Gender Index and related gender data to generate findings for influencing policies, raising awareness and for broadly monitoring progress towards gender equality. The SDG gender index (see: https://www.equalmeasures2030.org/2022-sdg-gender-index/) is a key tool for holding stakeholders to account for progress towards greater gender quality and meeting the rights of women and girls across 56 issues and for 144 countries.

In this role you will link, liaise, and collaborate with colleagues from across the EM2030 team and partnership. You will work closely with advocacy and communications colleagues, regional team members and partners to ensure that data products are demand-driven.

The role will suit someone who can identify, analyze and write up interesting findings from large data sets and other diverse sources and who can creatively transform data into influencing, campaigns and communications content. It is ideal for the candidate who can work independently and proactively with great attention to detail, and who values collaboration, flexibility, and nimbleness.

The Gender Data & Insights Analyst will play a vital role in ensuring that we are working towards our vision, mission and strategic objectives and will help us better communicate why and how data in the hands of feminist movements and organizations drives change for gender equality.

What you’ll do

Reporting to the Head of Data and Insights and working in close collaboration with the Head of Communications, the Gender Data & Insights Analyst will work on the following:

• Analyzing the SDG Gender Index data, and other relevant data and research, in response to identified needs for influencing, campaigns and communications content on priority themes, regions and countries

• Creating bespoke data and research products (e.g., “key facts and figures”, blogs, briefings, tables, charts, and data visualizations)

• Proactively identifying new findings, trends and themes in the Index data that can be used to help shape influencing, campaigns, and communications priorities

• Participating in cross-team working groups, especially with advocacy and communications colleagues, to shape and respond to priorities

• Contributing content to improve the presentation and navigation of online Index data

• Organizing team data resources, including managing datasets and metadata

• Supporting fact-checking of data-related print and electronic products

• Helping to plan and deliver training related to gender data use

• Help with coordination and administration of Data & Insights work as needed (e.g., capturing and sharing Data & Insights team meeting notes, organizing and updating shared folders, compiling MEL data related to Data & Insights activities, etc.)

Knowledge, skills, and/or experience

Essential

• 3-5 years of data and research experience, using economic and social indicators and data to shed light on issues related to gender equality and women’s rights

• Strong experience in communicating data and research to non-technical audiences, and in support and strengthen advocacy content

• Demonstrated skills in using software to manage and analyze data

• A proactive approach, with the ability to manage multiple demands, meet deadlines and effectively prioritize workload

• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills

• Able to work remotely effectively across time-zones, whilst managing work/life balance.

• Fluency in written and spoken English

• Demonstrated commitment to Feminist, Anti-Racist and Anti-Oppression values and principles, and to decolonizing work in the International Development sector

Desirable

• Fluency in a second language, especially Spanish and/or French (Hindi and/or Bahasa language skills would also be an asset)

• In-depth measurement/policy knowledge in a specific thematic area (e.g., SRHR, women’s economic empowerment, gender-based violence, etc.)

• Advanced Excel skills and programming skills in R, Stata, and/or other statistical packages

• Experience in using/interest in gaining skills with data visualization software (e.g., Tableau)

• The ability to write clearly and edit content for both expert and non-expert audiences in English
