GAVI Alliance

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership committed to saving children’s lives and protecting people’s health by increasing equitable use of vaccines in lower-income countries. The Vaccine Alliance brings together implementing country and donor governments, the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, technical agencies, civil society, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other private sector partners. Gavi uses innovative finance mechanisms, including co-financing by recipient countries, to secure sustainable funding and adequate supply of quality vaccines. Since 2000, Gavi has contributed to the immunisation of more than 981 million children and the prevention of more than 16 million future deaths.

THE ROLE

The HR Department drives Gavi’s people agenda to support the organisation’s strategy and to build a high-performing, motivated and engaged workforce. It is organised into four areas: Recruitment: attracting and retaining critical skills for Gavi; HR Business Partnering: focusing on longer-term strategic business needs, talent development and employee engagement; HR Services: providing effective operational services and advising on HR policy and procedures, and HR Legal & Policy: providing advice on HR matters having legal employee relations & developing relevant HR policies and processes.

HR Business Partners provide strategic partnership to the business, aligning people strategy with the organisational strategy whilst continuing to provide an efficient and client-focused service delivery. The Head, Human Resources Business Partnering will have overall management responsibility of the HR business partnering function, ensure excellence and consistency of HR business partnering across the organisation, whilst managing the performance management process, talent management and learning and development.

• Manage the HR Business Partnering function;
• Align HR programmes and policies with business needs;
• Foster a culture of collaboration and high performance;
• Excellent relationship and productive collaboration between HR and the business.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead a team of senior HR Business Partners who own the relationship with their respective client population, ensuring excellence in partnering practices across the organisation;
• Drives strategic workforce planning at Gavi, ensuring a sound process that enables the evaluation of supply and demand, assesses skills gaps and determines talent management initiatives required today and in the future; this includes the development of the Gavi Talent strategy, ensuring performance management and leadership capability building as key differentiators;
• Act as trusted advisor to the HRD and members of the Gavi Leadership team in areas such as succession and organisational reviews. This includes coach, support and mentor leaders in developing their leadership skills, help them identify strategies to increase engagement and support them in achieving Gavi’s mission;
• Identify and mitigate people related risks, overseeing complex employee-relations issues and the use of analytical capabilities to deliver meaningful business insights and shape change;
• Ensure HR programmes and policies are aligned with business need and set clear direction and deliverables in the area of people development;
• Manage key HR projects, initiatives and changes across Gavi within a changing environment;
• Foster a culture of collaboration and openness at Gavi by championing employee engagement and change. Model and champion Gavi values and behavioural competencies, as well as diversity and inclusion;
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of industry trends and anticipate the impact on the Gavi workforce;
• Work closely with the HRD and Head, Recruitment, HR Services and Project Delivery to develop and drive the overall delivery of the HR roadmap to support Gavi’s business objectives and to coach and develop all HR team members to increase HR capabilities within Gavi;
• Ensure that safeguarding is embedded in Gavi’s culture through fit-for-purpose practices and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

ACADEMIC

• Master degree or equivalent in Human Resources Management or related field;
• Executive coaching certification an asset.

WORK EXPERIENCE

• A minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience, including 5 years as a Senior HR Business Partner;
• Extensive professional experience at an international level in both private and public sectors.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

• Excellent knowledge of strategic HR management and track record of results;
• Ability to lead and manage people and excellence in developing teams;
• Ability to design HR policies, manage organisational change and implement successful HR changes, to take the HR function to the next level;
• Demonstrated ability to lead and implement HR initiatives in a multi-cultural environment that is constantly learning, evolving and changing;
• Sound judgement and decision making;
• Excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to work with a range of stakeholders and collaborators at all levels and the capacity to achieve consensus and co-operation on sensitive issues;
• High standards of personal integrity and proven ability to foster healthy, open and effective working relationships across teams;
• Excellent organisation skills and high sense of responsibility, efficiency, reliability and results;
• Ability to manage conflict and provide appropriate solutions;
• Excellent executive and management coaching skills and conflict resolution skills;
• Demonstrated ability to work in a multi¬cultural international environment, and establish harmonious and effective internal and external working relationships;
• Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills;
• Ability to work effectively in a team setting and under pressure;
• Ability to meet deadlines with an excellent attention to detail;
• Ability to multi-task.
