Position Description

EnCompass LLC is seeking a Junior Learning Associate to be a member of the Bureau for Global Health, Office of Professional Development and Management Support, Learning and Organizational Development Team (GH/PDMS/LOD) through the Global Health Training, Advisory, and Support Contract (GHTASC). The Junior Learning Associate (“Learning Associate”) works as an integral part of an appreciative, collaborative team to support the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of learning courses and activities for the United States Agency for the International Development (USAID) health sector workforce, with an emphasis on in-person, hybrid, and virtual Workforce Development events and conferences.

The purpose of Workforce Development is to strengthen USAID health sector staff capacity to lead and manage health programs by providing resources, sharing knowledge, building capacity, and maximizing learning opportunities, with a focus on leading and managing in a GH specific context and/or GH specific technical topics.

FLSA Status: Exempt

This is a full-time role based in a client site in Washington, DC. This position can be fully remote within the US States where EnCompass is currently registered. Candidates located in the DMV area who can attend onsite activities are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Essential functions include:

  • Consults on in-person, hybrid, and virtual learning event design and best practices
  • Serves as a virtual producer for virtual and hybrid retreats and learning events
  • Provides onsite logistical and facilitation support for in-person retreats and learning events
  • Contributes to and supports the planning of major GH learning events and conferences
  • Contributes to curriculum design using creative, innovative, and evidence-based approaches
  • Contributes to development of dynamic, experiential learning session designs, including macro designs based on client’s content, micro designs, and training scripts
  • Assists with the build, maintenance, tracking and data management of the Workforce Tracker
  • Supports the Communications & KM Specialist with knowledge management improvements
  • Contributes innovative methodologies and approaches to training, learning, and leadership development programs
  • Supports the management of learning projects; prepares project reports, coordinates learning evaluation systems and processes, and shares information with clients
  • Contributes to needs assessments and training evaluation, using mixed-methods approaches
  • Develops and maintains positive and productive relationships with all project stakeholders
  • Engages fully as a member of the EnCompass staff team, including participating in staff meetings and other EnCompass events
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and 1 year, Bachelor’s and 3 years, Associate’s and 5 years, or High School and 7 years of professional experience. Degree in adult learning, evaluation, instructional design, international communication, international development, leadership, organizational development, or a related field.

Experience and Skills

  • Experience supporting interactive learning experiences and curricula based on experiential, adult-centered learning, using blended learning and innovative technologies
  • Knowledge of the principles of learning, including adult learning, learning styles, participatory methods, instructional design, Appreciative Inquiry, whole systems design, e-learning, and related topics
  • Experience in virtual instructor-led training (webinar) production and face-to-face facilitation
  • Adeptness at identifying and framing problems, setting priorities, and making critical assessments
  • Ability to engage with staff and clients to define needs and expectations, collaborate on projects, and communicate results
  • Experience in the field of international development, working in cross-cultural environments
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, global public health strongly preferred
  • Experience planning and coordinating learning events and convenings strongly preferred
  • An appetite for learning, curiosity, and a willingness to experiment in new ways of working, including sensing, ideating, prototyping, implementing, evaluating, and communicating
  • Strong writing and synthesis skills; ability to convert technically complex concepts into plain language and able to communicate to a variety of audiences with a high degree of cultural sensitivity
  • Fluent in the use of Google Meet, Adobe Connect, WebEx, and/or Zoom, as well as the Microsoft Office and Google suites
  • Commitment to and experience integrating diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility
  • The ability to obtain and maintain Facility Access
  • U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency required
  • Experience working or living overseas and ability to travel internationally preferred
  • Familiarity with leading-edge thinking, methodologies, and approaches for learning and development programs and activities preferred
  • Strong presentation, communication (verbal and written), and facilitation skills preferred
  • Experience designing and implementing 508 compliant activities preferred
  • Experience with designing and facilitating organizational development activities preferred
  • Knowledge and experience working with e-Learning platforms, website design, LMS systems, and designing animation, augmented and virtual reality software preferred
  • Fluency in language(s) other than English preferred
  • Ability to work in an appreciative, strengths-based environment and guide others in using an appreciative approach
