Background: SoCha, LLC is contracted to provide Monitoring, Reporting, and Capacity Strengthening (MRCS) support to complement and augment USAID Senegal’s Sahel Regional Office (SRO) performance management of activities within its portfolio. MRCS will support Sahel Regional technical Office (SRTO), Sahel Regional Program Office (SRPO), the Niger Mission, the Burkina Faso Country Office, the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) Resilience Food Security Activities (RFSAs) in Niger and Burkina Faso. SoCha is looking for qualified individuals to fill the role of Project Drivers.

Position background: The driver serves as a chauffeur for project staff, consultants and other visitors as assigned by supervisor, as well as run errands and other duties as required to support the working of the office. S/he will ensure that the project vehicle assigned is well serviced and maintained as required and perform administrative tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Vehicle maintenance including regular check-ups, cleanings, and fueling.
  • Maintaining an accurate vehicle log.
  • Managing vehicle and trip scheduling as needed.
  • Maintaining accurate records and paperwork on all vehicle-related purchases and maintenance.
  • Provide safe transportation to and from locations for project staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all SoCha and local driving laws and regulations.
  • Maintain record of trips including kilometers traveled, fuel consumed and cost, and dates of oil changes, all according to established procedures.
  • Produce weekly records of mileage traveled.
  • Manage the day-to-day and scheduled manufacturer maintenance of the assigned vehicle, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.
  • Ensure that all regulations are followed in case of an accident and that required paperwork is submitted to the insurance.
  • Pick-up and deliver shipments and documents as assigned.
  • Identify any problems such as insecurity during driving operations and report them to the Logistics Specialist.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with all project / office personnel.
  • Provides a trip report on the vehicle performance after every activity outside the city of residence.
  • Perform other related tasks as required.

The tasks outlined above are indicative, but not exhaustive for the role and other tasks may be assigned by supervisor, the COP or their designee.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years’ work experience as a driver – USAID or other Donor project experience, a plus.
  • Fluent in English & French language both spoken and written.
  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate preferred.
  • Excellent driving record.
  • Valid Clean driver’s license.

The successful candidate may need to undergo a medical examination and provide a police clearance.
