This call for expression of interest is subject to successful acquisition of a project in Bangladesh.

Helvetas has been active in Bangladesh since 2000, implementing development projects in the areas of economic development, safe migration, water and sanitation, agriculture and nutrition, governance, and climate and the environment. Helvetas is further engaged in emergency response and supports the more than 800’000 refugees from Myanmar in Cox’s Bazar.

Remittances of Bangladeshi migrant workers are an important economic factor and have played a significant role in transforming the rural economy and contributing to poverty reduction in Bangladesh. The proposed new project objectives are to a) support migrant workers and their families in making informed decisions on how to use and invest their remittances sustainably, and b) address policy gaps and support financial institutions to develop targeted services for the migrant workers and their families.

YOUR MAIN TASKS

  • Strategically steer and manage the project
  • Provide technical advice on remittances management, financial literacy, linkages with financial institutions, and innovative approaches on access to markets for the migrant community
  • Provide advice on advocacy and policy dialogue related to remittances management and reintegration
  • Supervise the project staff, ensure compliance to HR policies and guidelines
  • Develop project workplans, operational budgets and progress reports
  • Manage partnership and sub-contractors’ agreements
  • Ensure timely and transparent financial and narrative reporting
  • Promote gender, socially inclusive and development effective principles and standards in all areas of engagement
  • Guide and supervise policy related studies carried out under the project by implementing partners or consultants
  • Participate in policy dialogue at different levels, in formal and informal thematic working groups at national, regional and global level
  • Ensure accurate information updates and contribute project experiences for wider organizational learning, media coverage and donor events

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8 years of experience in management or senior advisor functions and proven track record of managing large scale complex projects
  • Experience on migration and development and in particular remittances management
  • Expertise in financial literacy and financial inclusion, both working at grassroots and institutional level
  • Expertise in entrepreneurship and a value chain approach for holistic and climate smart business models for migrant workers and their families
  • Proven experience in coaching and mentoring of staff and partners, training and capacity building
  • Ability to work both independently and with teams, excellent facilitation skills, sensitivity for gender & social equity and the local culture
  • Track record in strategic project planning, design and implementation
  • Experience working in fragile contexts
  • Experience in South Asia – international experience on migration related topics in the South Asia region would be a plus
