The Program

The Laos Australia Institute is managed by Tetra Tech on behalf of the Australian Government.

Laos Australia Institute (LAI) has worked to support human resource development in Laos since 2013. It is the Australian Government’s leading program for scholarships and training, as well as a source of technical advice and support to the public and private sectors.

LAI’s work aims to overcome barriers and challenges faced by women, people living with a disability, and people from ethnic minorities or remote communities – in support of the economic and social development priorities in Lao PDR.

The Position

The Public Diplomacy and Alumni Engagement Manager (the Manager) is responsible for LAI’s approach and delivery of public diplomacy and alumni engagement. This core leadership role provides high quality public diplomacy strategies and products and targeted, demand driven alumni engagement activities. The Manager ensures quality and consistency of all activities, interventions and interactions. The successful candidate will deliver communications and engagement with stakeholders that maintains or enhances LAI’s (and the Australian Government) reputation as a reliable and trustworthy partner of choice for building National HRD capability in the Lao PDR.

The Person

To be successful in this role the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Tertiary qualifications in International Relations, Business, Marketing, Communications or Public Relations
  • Fluency, both written and verbal, in English and Lao is essential
  • Demonstrated experience managing/coordinating events, promotion and/or marketing activities
  • High level stakeholder coordination, relationship management and client/customer service skills
  • Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience applying policies, monitoring performance, and ensuring quality outcomes related to education and training
  • Experience in project management and preparing reports for clients and stakeholders
  • An understanding of international development principles and practices is desirable
  • Familiarity with the Lao and Australian higher education systems highly regarded
