
CARE
Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Major Gifts and the leadership team, the Senior Director of Development, Stewardship strategizes, plans, implements and evaluates all aspects of donor engagement, communications, and when safe, international travel opportunities across Major Gifts and Planned Giving teams. This position is a key partner and ally in growing and deepening critical supporter relationships and welcoming in new prospective donors to CARE. The Senior Director will responsible for key metrics that drive growth and create joyful and meaningful donor experiences and also build out a small team to include another staff member. Together, the Major Gifts Stewardship team will lead year-round engagement plans in partnership with a dynamic and talented group of frontline fundraisers.
Responsibilities:
- Donor Stewardship
- Build and implement a comprehensive annual communication and stewardship plan for major donors and prospects.
- Manage the production of CARE’s bi-annual donor publication, the CARE Impact Magazine, and other collateral (e.g., program 2-pagers, webpages, etc.) in partnership with Marketing and external vendors.
- Draft timely and tailored cover notes/letters, report summaries, event invitations, and other donor communications as needed to support fundraisers in their stewardship efforts.
- In partnership with fundraisers, ensure that major donors receive appropriate, consistent engagement/ acknowledgment and an accounting of the impact that their giving has on community needs.
- Work with the Grants Coordination and Resource Development Communications teams to ensure timely and compelling impact reporting.
- Event Management
- Serve as a focal point and advocate for major donor audiences during the planning or execution of larger CARE events like our annual Impact Awards, national advocacy conference, CARE-wide celebrations, etc.
- Advance plans to hire and manage a small team (1-2 staff or interns, external vendors, etc.) to execute strategic priorities and support event planning.
- Community Building
- Refine and implement a community-building strategy that fosters meaningful relationships, learning, and peer-to-peer connections for major donors in key markets, including organizing events and programs for CARE
- City Committee and Circle 75 members.
- Support the team during emergency response or other timely fundraising opportunities with appropriate tools, reports, information.
- Donor Travel
- Oversee custom trips for major donors, including working closely with CARE Country Office staff on itinerary development, managing external vendors and consultants handling logistical details, etc.
- Manage an external professional vendor who will support donor travel.
- Own the internal prep process for guests, CARE leadership, etc. on CARE donor travel.
- Internal Collaboration
- Partner closely and directly with other CARE teams (Marketing, Events, Office of the President, Programs, etc.) to stay apprised of opportunities to build relationships with key and influential donors and investors.
- Become the go-to person for fundraisers seeking collateral, impact reports, etc.
- Supporting strategic projects with the co-AVPs, etc.
- Other duties as assigned/needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years professional experience in a donor or alumni stewardship role
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Experience at a large non-profit in a stewardship position
- Experience with Salesforce as a donor CRM
- Experience working with high net worth donors ($1M+)
- Familiarity with all aspects of fundraising concepts, including Planned Giving, Major Gifts and stewardship functions
- Passion and commitment for CARE’s mission and values
- A creative thinker with proven ability to produce and manage multiple events at one time.
- A self-starter, detail oriented, well- organized and able to plan and execute events from conception to completion.
- Has excellent communication and writing skills, good judgment and discretion, and the ability to successfully interact with donors, board members, guest speakers and staff at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to establish, cultivate and steward strong relationships with internal and external audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to build successful signature events and innovative donor engagement strategies.
- Ability to develop and execute fundraising strategies and plans that integrate into the organization’s mission, priorities and goals.
- Uses compelling arguments to gain the support and commitment of others.
- Resolves conflicts and differences through dialog and open communication – rebounds from setbacks and adversity when facing difficult situations.
