Main Purpose Of Role

Manage the tax position for Asset Solutions East

Key Duties & Accountabilities

  • Tax Compliance
    • Manage tax compliance processes for ASE and ensure that all tax compliance requirements are delivered timely and accurately for all in-scope taxes, i.e. direct tax, indirect tax, transfer pricing reports, etc.
    • Review and ensure that all positions taken in filed tax returns are technically robust, and are adequately supported and documented so that all tax submissions are “audit ready”
    • Document in a robust manner all tax compliance processes
    • Work closely with project and other internal teams to understand, assess and mitigate tax risks on projects
    • Actively manage external tax advisers, their fees and performance, supporting the delivery of the tax fees budget of the business unit
    • Manage and work with external auditors to ensure that tax audit processes are completed smoothly
    • Identify and implement solutions to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of tax compliance processes
  • Tax Reporting
    • Deliver on time and right first time internal and external tax reporting for the business unit
    • Prepare and update project tax calculations including estimates of tax at project completion, current tax vs deferred tax split, cash tax forecasts, etc.
    • Prepare tax movement schedules, and periodically analyse, true-up and validate tax balances
    • Maintain a tax risk register for the business unit and ensure that all material provided and unprovided tax risks are identified, understood, and tracked
    • Ensure that all uncertain tax treatments (UTTs) are properly documented and supported
    • Track and understand the tax compliance cycle in each jurisdiction in order to ensure that tax impacts are correctly reflected in the Group’s financial statements
    • Periodic review of tax ledgers to ensure the correctness of the reported tax numbers
    • Ensure that tax payments are correctly recorded in the accounts, and are allocated to the correct project
    • Compile and report tax payments made across jurisdictions and ensure that adequate documentation is maintained
    • Support the preparation of tax disclosures and schedules for legal entity financial statements
    • Deliver timely, right first-time and insightful updates to senior management on the tax position of ASE
  • Tax Controversy
    • Manage tax controversy matters for the business unit ensuring that tax assessments, settlements and disputes with the tax authorities are concluded on the most favourable terms possible
  • Other
    • Monitor legislative changes, assess the impact on the business unit, and propose and implement responses as appropriate
    • Ensure full compliance with all tax laws and Petrofac Group policies, standards, and procedures
    • Address ad-hoc tax related queries from colleagues and support ad-hoc tax projects as required
    • Train and raise awareness within the ASE team of the Group’s tax reporting requirements and processes
    • Assess and implement opportunities for legal entity simplification
    • Optimize the tax position – book and cash – of ASE projects and contracts
  • Financial Controls
    • Monitor the financial statements risks associated with tax and respond by ensuring the appropriate financial controls are designed, implemented, and operated effectively to provide reasonable assurance on the integrity of the financial statements
    • Assess opportunities to optimise the financial controls framework
  • Process Improvement
    • Identify ESSA (elimination, standardisation, simplification, and automation) opportunities, and communicate to relevant stakeholders’ inefficiencies including suboptimal tax processes
    • Build and sustain a network of key stakeholders to deliver process improvements
    • Improve data management and report automation through close collaboration with the Information Technology (IT) function
    • Proactively support the implementation of Oracle Tax Reporting Cloud Services (TRCS) and ensure that it delivers the intended benefits

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications

  • Degree level education
  • Tax professional qualified to UK Chartered Institute of Taxation ATII, UK Chartered Accountant, or equivalent

Skills And Competencies Required

  • Tax professional with relevant in-house experience
  • Oracle including TRCS
  • Excel
  • Reporting writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to work effectively with all areas of the business and to communicate with colleagues, and build effective relationships
  • Ability to critically analyse current work methods and suggest and rapidly implement successful change
  • Strong verbal and written communication in English

Experience

  • At least 4-5 years’ tax experience with a listed multinational company
  • Big 4 accounting firm trained, relevant work experience in oilfield services preferred
  • Good working knowledge and experience of application of IFRS
