Do you want to help us deliver on the promise that all people matter? Promise Inclusion is a local charity supporting people with learning disabilities and their carers. We welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds.

What difference will you make?

As part of our board you will help to deliver on the promise that ALL people matter ensuring that Promise Inclusion is carrying out its purpose and complying with its governing document and the law. This is an important role helping to ensure our support for our members continues. The trustees are a collective body, with everyone equally responsible for all aspects of governance of the organisation.

What are we looking for?

Strategic vision; good, independent judgement Ability to cooperatively work with the whole team of trustees, and with employees and volunteers Skills and ability to listen, even to differing views Skills to analyse proposals, examine their strategic consequences and make concise recommendations as part of the trustees’ team Willingness to speak her/his mind and appropriately challenge other trustees and employees; able to make unpopular recommendations to the board, if necessary Commitment to the organisation; willingness and ability to devote the necessary time & effort Ability to think creatively Willingness to be available to employees for advice and enquiries on a scheduled or ad-hoc basis Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship

What will you be doing?

Promise Inclusion is a local, independent and user-led charity supporting children and adults with learning disabilities and/or autism, their carers and families within the Boroughs of Wokingham and Bracknell Forest. We provide support through a Family Liaison Service; activities for carers; siblings support groups; a Youth Group; social groups for adults to enable them to make friends and reduce their social isolation and a Life Skills programme called Gateway. (We are affiliated to, but not funded by Royal Mencap.) We are seeking to appoint Trustees to our Board. Whether you are an experienced Trustee or wanting to take your first step at Board level we want to hear from you and we welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds. As a prospective Trustee you may have skills in one of more of the following areas Lived experience Health and Safety HR Or you may add something we haven’t thought of yet! We will provide you with the following Induction, training and reimbursable expenses Opportunities to develop new skills and make strategic decisions Opportunities to network Influence to shape innovative projects The chance to make a difference in our local community and support inclusion. The expected time commitment is approximately 6 evening meetings a year, which includes an AGM and a half day Business Planning Meeting. Meetings can be in person, hybrid or on Zoom and are arranged to try to suit everyone’s availability.
