The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 30 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC New York’s Economic Empowerment Department provides employment and career assistance to approximately 500 refugees, asylees and other immigrants each year. Through a variety of services including Early Employment, Career Development, Food and Agriculture, and Financial Capabilities programs, the IRC supports refugee, asylee and immigrant clients to gain employment and career advancement opportunities in the New York City area.
Under the supervision of the Economic Empowerment Manager, the Career Development Coordinator supervises the development and implementation of career pathways programming including direct service provision, data management and case file documentation for clients interested in advancing career opportunities and developing industry specific and transferable employment skills. The coordinator will ensure IRC achieves program targets relating to enrollment, economic empowerment outcomes and connection to community benefits and resources.
- Design, implement, and provide monitoring and evaluation oversight for career and industry specific programming;
- Explore new career pathways and industries based on client interest and employment opportunities;
- Work as part of a team to provide comprehensive strength-based services to IRC clients through coordination of cases and effective communication between team members and departments
- Supervise a team providing career support services to clients enrolled in career programs;
- Support grant writing, reports, budget management, media and volunteer engagement opportunities specific to career programs;
- Carry a caseload of 30+ clients enrolled in career programs each year;
- Provide in-classroom career pathways instruction, one-on-one career coaching, and continuing professional development opportunities including enrollment in advanced trainings;
- Develop and refine standardized intake, assessment, and program delivery tools and systems across career development programming
- Assist with development of advanced work readiness and bridge programming as necessary for client success in advanced training programs
- Participate in IRC network-wide initiatives to understand and share best-practices relating to career pathways programming;
- Support Economic Empowerment team activities and participate in program development and design for career programming;
- Monitor intake and enrollment trends, quality of service provision and timeliness and accuracy of case file documentation;
- Participate in program meetings, staff development activities, and other duties as assigned
- Build and maintain partnerships with community-based organizations, career service providers, and small business and corporate entities for advanced career opportunities;
- Assist clients and employers as necessary with post-placement issues and continuing employment needs;
- Coordinate corporate and employer engagement opportunities and events.
- Undergraduate degree is required, preferably in social work, social sciences, or related field; advanced degree preferred
- At least two years of related professional experience in workforce development
- Experience in developing curriculum and instructing coursework for English Language Learners
- Experience in a non-profit setting and prior experience working in employment services a plus
- Experience working in a culturally diverse setting with diverse client base
- Knowledge of career pathways and industry certification requirements a plus

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Ability to travel regularly throughout New York City
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written preferred; bilingual ability preferred, preferably in Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, French, Arabic, Dari/Farsi and/or Pashto.
