The Opportunity
Save the Children is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of Consultant Drivers (4 positions) in various locations within Malawi. The role holders will be responsible for supporting the office in driving Save the Children vehicles to transport Save the Children staff members, partners and consultants. They will also support in minor vehicle repairs and carry out some clerical assignments in the department i.e. filing of documents.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Responsible for the safe use of the vehicle assigned to them.
- To only undertake journeys that are authorized by the appropriate managers.
- Abide by all Save the Children driving rules and transport policies.
- Carry out daily and weekly checks on vehicle as set out in log book.
- Report all faults, maintenance needs and incidents/accidents to the Fleet Officer.
- Complete the vehicle log books and sheets on a daily basis.
- Ensure all equipment allocated to the vehicle is complete and in good working order, including spare tyres and other equipment before undertaking any journey
- Before commencing on a journey, ensure that the vehicle is in good working condition, clean, appropriately equipped and has adequate fuel for the intended journey.
- Ensure all supplies and equipment to be carried are accompanied by appropriate paperwork, packed and stowed away safely and securely.
In order to be successful you will bring/have:
- Malawi School Certificate of Education plus clean and valid Driving Licence.
- Valid Defensive Driving Certificate.
- Certificate in Motor vehicle servicing and repairing will be an advantage.
- Two years’ experience in driving vehicles in a busy organization
- Experience in working in NGOs is an added advantage
- Ability to prioritize assignments
- Computer skills (knowledge of spreadsheet, word packages)
- Knowledge of record keeping procedures applicable to vehicle management
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.
