Position Title: Information Management Officer

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.


Under the overall supervision of the Deputy Chief of Mission (DCoM) and direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator, the Information Management Officer will be responsible and accountable for supporting the implementation of information management activities of Cox’s Bazar Sub-Office of IOM Bangladesh Country Office (CO).

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Carry out collection, consolidation, analysis and visualization of operational and financial data related to IOM’s activities in Cox’s Bazar Sub-Office.
  2. Contribute to the design, maintenance, update and improvement of the information management systems to address information management needs across the CO and provide support and training to the users of these systems.
  3. Draft information products for senior management, Programme Support Unit and Programme Managers as well as donors and partners.
  4. Maintain and improve PSU’s dashboard providing automated analysis of operational and financial data across the Country Office. Design and develop other dashboards or components as required.
  5. Provide support to the relevant programmatic units in the use of WFP’s SCOPE system for different distributions. Liaise and coordinate regularly with relevant WFP counterparts.
  6. In close coordination with Information Management units in other Sub-Offices of Bangladesh CO, provide technical support in the development and implementation of information management activities, the development of information products, identify related problems and issues to be addressed and propose alternative solutions.
  7. In close coordinate with the Programme Managers and Information Management Units of Bangladesh CO, define data analysis and data collection requirements.
  8. Recommend data collection or analysis activities to address gaps in information management.
  9. Contribute to quality control, provide technical support and skills training for information management and other relevant programme units of the CO.
  10. Participate in relevant technical working groups and other meetings related to information management and support in liaising with United Nations (UN) Agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders.
  11. Support the Programme Support Unit with project development and reporting as required.
  12. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:


  • Master’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Geographic information Systems, Social sciences, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or
  • University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience


  • Experience in Kobo/ODK and PowerBI or equivalent software;
  • Experience with GIS is a plus;
  • Experience in implementing information management, data analysis and assessments in humanitarian operations;
  • Experience in supporting teams and proven good communicational, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills;
  • Experience creating information products (reports, factsheets, visualizations, dashboards,etc.);
  • Experience and skills to analyse information, expertise on data processing and analysis software;
  • Experience automating data analysis using R (or an equivalent programming language);
  • Experience with large humanitarian datasets and an understanding of humanitarian data types;
  • Experience coordinating between different units and agencies to rationalize and streamline data processes;
  • Experience with international organizations, United Nations (UN) agencies, International/Non-Governmental Organizations (I/NGO) is preferred; and,
  • Experience working with staff from diverse environments in remote and hardship settings is desirable;


  • Demonstrated ability to produce timely and informative information products in humanitarian emergencies and/or major data collection operations;
  • Ability to compile and holistically analyse diverse datasets;
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft’s Office suite;
  • Applied knowledge of data analysis utilizing R or equivalent programming language;
  • Ability to produce scalable, automated analysis, including outputting charts and reports;
  • Knowledge in data visualization and information design skills;
  • Demonstrated understanding of different data collection methodologies; and,
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Illustrator is beneficial.


IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

External applicants for all positions in the Professional category are required to be proficient in English and have at least a working knowledge of one additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).

For all applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge in Bengali, Rohingya dialect is an advantage.
