Job Summary And Scope Of Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant apprentice will attend 288 hours of classroom and lab sessions and complete 2,000 hours of on the job clinical practice with the goal of passing the Medical Assistant Certification exam and becoming a Certified Medical Assistant (MA-C) in WA state. The Medical Assistant Apprentice, under the direct supervision of a Certified Medical Assistant, performs delegated clinical and administrative duties providing direct support to primary care providers and some direct care to patients. Work in partnership and joint accountability with other team members to achieve Neighborcare Health’s Mission, Guiding Principles, Service Commitments, and Goals.

Apprenticeship Details

  • Class start date: October 21st, 2024
  • 7-week Medical Assistant Apprenticeship classroom time will be held at our partnering programs class located in Renton address to be sent upon hire.
  • Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program tuition will be paid in-lieu of a sign-on bonus
  • Clinicals will be completed at one of our Neighborcare Health Clinics
  • The Medical Assistant Certification exam fee – Paid by program partner
  • The Medical Assistant Certification License – Paid by Neighborcare Health
  • The position is benefit eligible

Primary Responsibilities

  • Attend 288 hours of classroom and lab sessions for Medical Assistant apprenticeship training
  • Maintain an 80% or greater grade during classroom and lab sessions
  • Complete 2000 hours of apprenticeship on the job training in the clinic
  • Perform duties and responsibilities with excellence, enthusiasm, great service orientation demonstrating courteous behaviors and mannerisms, and by anticipating medical provider’s needs
  • Demonstrate flexibility and readily assists other staff members. Maintains a safe and healthy work environments for patients, self and other
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms for use by medical providers by cleaning, stocking and arranging supplies, equipment and instruments
  • Review and communicate to medical provider’s appointment schedule to determine patient visit order and solicits special instructions or requests for the day, greets and escorts patient to examination or treatment room in a respectful, warm and caring manner. Keeps patients, medical providers, and other team members, informed of medical provider’s status and/or time delays throughout the day
  • Interview patient to determine reason for visit; takes patient’s vital signs, e.g., blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, height and weight; blood draws, immunizations, records information in patient’s medical record; and reports findings to appropriate personnel, according to WAC standard requirements
  • Instruct or assist patient in preparation for scheduled procedures, in a caring and courteous manner
  • Perform appropriate basic, routine and regular delegated medical functions as directed and within appropriate scope of practice as interred by knowledge, skill level, and Neighborcare Health guidelines (e.g.., vision screening, ear irrigations, hearing tests, hematocrit, tonometry measurements, EKG tests, collecting throat, wound, and sputum specimens, and urine cultures) using appropriate instruments, techniques, and specimen labeling process
  • Support medical providers performing routine examination and treatment procedures by attending patient during procedures and providing appropriate supplies and instruments
  • Perform routine clerical and reception duties, as required, such as, maintaining departmental logs, answering telephones and taking massages, checking in patients, and scheduling patient appointments
  • Perform other duties as assigned, such as assisting in orienting and training new staff members, transporting equipment or patient, and stocking shelves.
  • Demonstrate computer literacy for charting and reviewing in NexGen, our electronic medical record system
  • Works within scope of practice and according to Neighborcare Health policies. Comply with regulatory requirements and standards of care

Education Required

  • High school diploma or equivalency

Required License/Certification/Registration

  • Completed Medical Assistant Apprentice program
  • Obtain an endorsement signed by a Neighborcare Health provider (site SMD and/or CHO) within 7 days of employment.
  • Obtain an active Medical Assistant-Registered status within 60 days of employment from Washington State Department of Health per WAC.
  • Maintain a current attestation of endorsement to perform specific medical tasks signed by a supervising health care practitioner filed with the department of health.
  • Basic Life Saving (BLS) certificate

The wage range for this position $19.97
