CONTEXT
MSF’s mission in Belgium aims to address, through a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach, the health needs and key social determinants of the most vulnerable segments of the population, including migrants in transit and undocumented migrants, while proactively engaging in assessing main difficulties and promoting institutional change.
As a nurse and under the responsibility of the project coordinator, your main mission will be to assist in the areas of welcoming of asylum seekers/migrants in transit and realize a first medical screening. You will be the focal point for medical requests and provide a general support within the center. You will provide nursing care, treatment and follow-up of patients, according to doctors’ prescriptions, protocols applied in service and universal hygiene standards/precautions, in order to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure a nursing permanence on a daily basis (Monday to Friday)Know, promote, implement and follow up the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules and other protocols and procedures and ensuring high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment. Respect medical confidentiality at all times.
- Ensure a first triage on suspected COVID and initiate the testing and isolation procedures if need be.
- Focal point for medical requests for the residents, answer their medical questions, and refer them to the appropriate people and services for non-medical and medical issues. It implies a lot of communication and follow-up with medical and non-medical actors on daily basis
- Organize and carry out care treatments according to medical prescriptions
- In case of medical emergency, provide first aid and call the emergency services if necessary.
- Focal point for the follow up of administrative procedures with the authorities related with the rights to medical assistance in Belgium
- Organize health education of the residents
- Report any problematic situations and cases that may arise.
- Share information on a regular basis with colleagues and partners about certain needs and situations that arise.
- Participate to coordination and medico-psycho-social meetings
- Manage a team of two intercultural mediators specifically dedicated to the medical services
- Ensure data collection and monthly reporting.
- Contribute to the capitalization report of the project
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Essential recognized nurse degree/diploma
Experience:
- Desirable : Bachelor in Science of Nursing
- Desirable : 2 years of previous experience and previous experience in other NGO’s
Competencies:
- You have a real interest in the problems of asylum seekers and are sensitive to the issue of immigration;
- You are an active listener, empathetic, open to discussion and collaboration;
- You are able to manage conflicts and the stress they can generate;
- You have good planning and organizational skills according to the responsibilities entrusted to you; You are solution-oriented;
- You work independently while respecting the imposed framework.
Languages:
- English and French. Other languages (especially Arabic) are an asset.
CONDITIONS
- Expected starting date: ASAP
- Contract type: Fixed-term contract of 3 month, full-time
- Location: based in Brussels
- Salary according to MSF-OCB HQ grid – Hospital Insurance (DKV) – Pension Plan – 100% reimbursement for public transportation costs
