Working closely with the Central Purchasing Function in Milan & local Logistics/Operations/R&D Functions this key role will be responsible for:

  • Managing the Company’s spend in respect of procurement activities associated with Cable making; Compound ingredients and Accessories (Network Components, Cable Accessories & Connectivity) to ensure that targets are achieved.
  • Ensuring that products and raw material supply are supplied at the lowest possible acquisition cost in accordance with Company requirements.
  • Leading and managing a professional team.

Specific Areas Of Responsibility Will Include

The successful candidate will be targeted with negotiating contracts with suppliers to obtain greater value for money and enhancing or maintaining contract terms/conditions to reduce commercial risk.

  • Negotiating and raising contracts for the supply of materials for both Cable making & Accessories.
  • Operating and managing an efficient and professional Raw Material Purchasing function to ensure that the Company is provided with the level of service necessary to fulfil customer requirements.
  • Developing and driving cost reduction programmes.
  • Working closely with the Engineering function to capture new ideas/innovations for suppliers and reducing costs using the Design to Cost (DTC) tool.
  • Eliminating single source in line with company targets.
  • Improving supplier payment terms.
  • Generating timely and accurate statistical information and analysis on supplier performance in the areas of quality, delivery, service and lead time. This would include the control and maintenance of the Unitary Price Model and the material price forecast.
  • Organizing and leading supplier audits together with Quality Department
  • Ensuring the most efficient and ethical purchasing techniques are used during the procurement cycle, maintaining and updating Company procedures and ensuring compliance.
  • Keeping abreast of supply market trends including developing benchmarking & indexing techniques to ensure purchases are consistently made at competitive unitary prices.
  • Preparation of Management Plan in line with company procedures & Central Purchasing guidelines.

Candidates should ideally be educated to Degree level in a technical/engineering subject with significant broad experience of operating in a commercial environment.

This position requires excellent communication skills with the capacity to formulate strategy and make key business decisions. You will therefore be able to demonstrate a sound level of commercial acumen and have excellent analytical skills.

Ideally CIPS qualified, you will also have proven abilities to lead, motivate and direct a professional team.

An excellent working knowledge of Microsoft office and experience of SAP will be essential.

The successful candidate will have highly persuasive inter-personal skills enabling lasting and influential relationships to be built. Tenacity and the drive to succeed in a commercial environment are additional qualities required in this role.

Location details

This role is based in our offices near the Eastleigh town centre. The address is Prysmian Cables & Systems Limited, Chickenhall Lane, Eastleigh, SO50 6YU. There are good transport links to Eastleigh and the site is approximately 15 minutes walk from the railway station. We are able to offer free car parking next to our offices.
