This is the fourth level of the financial analysis classification hierarchy. Employees at this level work independently and receive minimal guidance. Incumbents are required to have in-depth knowledge and experience and work to solve complex problems. Incumbents also act as a resource for less experience employees.
The Senior Accounting Analyst will provide accounting, financial analysis, and reporting support for the Electric Segment and reports through the Controller’s Department. This role is responsible for certain internal and external accounting and reporting tasks. This position will be assigned specific regulatory and internal reporting related tasks during each cycle. The position interfaces with business representatives at all levels, at different jurisdictions, and in different departments/functions to provide expertise and assistance for accurate and timely revenue reporting.
This role is responsible for accounting, financial analysis, and reporting support for the Controller’s Department. The position requires interaction with various departments and individuals within the organization, strong technical knowledge and research capabilities to ensure compliance with GAAP and FERC. Responsibilities also include leading projects, setting priorities and special projects as assigned. Perform complex analysis and research ad-hoc requests, develop reporting, and effectively present results for management review and decision making.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with teammates and managers on various accounting/reporting activities that include: preparation of monthly internal reports such as the balance sheet variance analysis, preparation and review of associated footnote disclosures (Form 10Q/K); preparation of quarterly earnings release financial information; preparation and review of regulatory or customer data request information; and other analyses and special projects.
- Work to ensure that GAAP and FERC reporting requirements are met. The team is focused on continuous improvements and the senior analyst is expected to identify and implement process improvements to produce efficiencies.
- Works closely with a variety of internal customers, including FP&A, Rates & Regulatory, and Tax teams regarding various reporting and disclosure items.
- Works with internal and external auditors, providing necessary information and answering questions.
- Handle moderately complex reporting issues, and there may be occasional research and documentation of significant accounting issues/conclusions. Therefore, strong analytical skills and the ability to exercise judgment are essential.
- This position will be owner of the fuel accounting process for Duke Energy Florida including being the business owner and contact for several fuel reporting systems including FAR and PowerGads.
Required/Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline
- Three (3) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
- Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
- Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, OneStream , PowerPlan, etc.) and query tool (WebI)
- Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, PowerBI, and PowerPoint
Desired Qualifications
- CPA or working toward CPA
- Advanced degree, preferably in Accounting
- Six (6) years or more of professional work related experience
- Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
- Previous experience in utility and regulatory accounting environment
- Effective written and oral communication and collaboration skills
- Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills, including data analytics
- Demonstrated ability to effectively perform at the experienced analyst level, including ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and adhere to strict deadlines and schedules
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and foster good relationships with teammates and business partners
- Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to efficiently multi-task within tight deadlines
- Public accounting or auditing experience
Working Conditions
- Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the assigned Duke Energy facility.
- Some overtime is likely and required related to preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual tasks.
